Noel Whelan has claimed that it is “absolutely massive” for Tottenham Hotspur to have tied teenage sensation Troy Parrott down to a new deal in north London.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds United forward suggested that the Republic of Ireland international, 18, still has a lot to learn, but could go on to become a real asset for Jose Mourinho’s men.
The club confirmed that Parrott had agreed terms on a contract that will keep him in north London until at least 2023 last week.
And Whelan has revealed how impressed he is with the youngster.
“He’s very exciting, he is,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s still not the fully polished article, he’s still very young, but the potential in him is absolutely massive.
“Already an international at such a young age, which I think is great, he’s got that experience. I’m sure he’s going to get more caps.
“Even if he’s not playing for Tottenham, week in, week out, I think it’s invaluable that they kept him because I’m sure clubs will have had their eyes opened, seen his performances, seen what sort of player he is. He can score a goal, he can see a pass.
“I think it’s important that you get your little starlets tied down, and Tottenham seem to be doing very good business on that level.”
Parrott made his Premier League debut earlier this season with a late cameo in the 5-0 win over Burnley back in December.
That appearance came a month after his full international debut for the Republic of Ireland, with the starlet registering an assist in a friendly win over New Zealand.
