‘Abysmal’ – Nottingham Forest fans rip into ‘petulant’ star who lost 11 duels in Everton loss

Nottingham Forest fans were not best pleased with Morgan Gibbs-White’s performance as they slipped to a 2-0 loss to Everton on Tuesday.

Sean Dyche‘s side had lost three of their previous four league games prior to kick-off, including a 3-0 defeat to his former employers Everton on 6 December.

The Toffees travelled to the City Ground on Tuesday night and came away with three points once more as goals from James Garner and Thierno Barry earned them a 2-0 win.

Gibbs-White could have left Forest in the summer as he nearly joined Tottenham, but he remained in the East Midlands after signing a new contract in July.

His performances have left a lot to be desired so far, and his struggles continued on Tuesday as the Reds suffered their third successive defeat.

Gibbs-White’s poor recent form continued vs Everton

Forest fans slammed Gibbs-White as he missed a penalty in a Europa League clash against Sturm Graz last month, but he returned to the scoresheet in the games that followed against Leeds and Liverpool.

The Everton defeat was the eighth consecutive game in which the 25-year-old has not scored or assisted, however, despite being named in Dyche’s starting lineup in seven of those.

His Forest teammates place a lot of trust in him to be their main creative outlet, yet his struggles in that regard were amplified against the Toffees as he created just one chance and missed a big chance to score as Jordan Pickford saved his late header.

Gibbs-White was dispossessed twice and committed three fouls, somehow escaping without a booking, but the most shocking stat of all to emerge from the game was the fact that he lost 11 of the 12 duels he attempted, either on the ground or in the air.

Forest fans fed up with Gibbs-White after another sub-par showing

Gibbs-White’s biggest issue is the high bar that his previous performances have set, and the fact that Forest could have got £60million for him as he neared a move to Spurs in the summer.

His latest poor showing against Everton has only angered their fans more about that deal failing, with many feeling like he will not command such a fee if he does move on soon.

Taking to X, one supporter said: “MGW (Gibbs-White) is fundamentally an average PL player. £60m was a robbery. He can’t shoot, he can’t pass, he can’t create, he can’t dribble etc etc. Someone tell me what he brings to this team other than his petulant ego.”

Another added: “What chance have you got when your ‘superstar number 10 has ZERO Premier League assists in his last 18 games. After his antics in the summer, we needed much more from Gibbs-White this season. He’s been embarrassing.”

While one said: “He can’t create anything against teams who play deep, and bangs the occasional outside of foot long ball for a winger to sprint after against the good teams. Never going to get offered £65 million again.”
