27-year-old is a world beater: Three things we learned about Manchester United in wiin over Zorya

COMMENT By Dominic Toner

Football Insider analyses three talking points from Manchester United’s 2-0 victory against Ukrainian side Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League.

Mkhitaryan is worth every penny

Henrikh Mkhitaryan proved on Thursday night that he is certainly worth the £26.3million that United paid Borussia Dortmund in the summer. The attacking midfielder scored his first goal for the club in some style and was the best player on the pitch. The 27-year-old dribbled through the oppositions half and calmly scored to give United the lead. Mhitaryan was strangely out-of-favour during his first few months with the club, but has now put down a marker for manager Jose Mourinho. The winger is surely going to start against Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday. His creativity is perfect for United and he can be a world beater. He is that good.

Mourinho wants Europa League success

Jose Mourinho showed that he is taking the Europa League seriously this season. The Portuguese manager field a strong starting XI in the away match at Zorya and his team secured safe passage to the knockout rounds. United’s best chance of Champione League qualification for next season could be to win the Europa League, with the race for the top four looking very difficult. Mourinho has got a big enough squad to deal with the added European fixtures and showed a real desire to achieve something in the under-rated competition. United are regarded as real contenders to win the competitions and Mourinho appears to be capitalising on the chance.

Ibrahimovic is still world-class

United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic delivered another fantastic performance for the club. The 35-year-old had been written off by many at the start of the season due to his age, but he has used that experience to torment defences. He lead the line brilliantly for United on Thursday and deservedly scored a late goal with a composed finish. He has now scored 13 goals in 23 appearances for the Red Devils and appears to be getting better as he settles in England. United have so many creative attackers to help supply Ibrahimovic, who is still one of the best finishers in European football.
