Leeds United must tie Tom Pearce down to a new long-term deal now or risk losing him for nothing in the summer.
The 20-year-old has only emerged from the U23s to the senior team this year and despite only make two appearances in the Championship, he’s already earning rave reviews from the Whites faithful.
But Pearce is out of contract this summer and with no talk of a new deal in the wings, Leeds fans will be getting a bit nervy.
After a fine debut against Sheffield Wednesday, it was something of a surprise that manager Paul Heckingbottom chose to go with Stuart Dallas in place of the youngster in the following fixture.
And, it wasn’t until Friday night’s defeat against Villa that the Whites got a chance to see the left-sided flyer again.
Pearce was once again impressive, keeping Robert Snodgrass quiet throughout the 90 minutes, so it will be something of a concern to see the lack of action surrounding the defender’s future at Elland Road.
It’s been a shocker of a season for the Yorkshire outfit, with little to shout about in terms of success on the pitch apart from the emergence of a number graduates from the U23s.
Bailey Peacock-Farrell has repaid the faith shown in him by Heck and earned a number of Man of the Match displays since taking over from Felix Wiedwald in between the sticks.
If Andrea Radrizzani has any intention of making the fans happy, he will need to ensure he doesn’t let Pearce go this summer.
With glimpses of him in the first team not going unnoticed, there could well be other teams interested in him in the summer.
In other Leeds United news, Whites 27-year-old is fighting to save his job after weekend events.
