Rangers director of football Mark Allen looks to have made a start on the club’s rebuild of the playing squad with the departures of Niko Kranjcar and David Bates confirmed – but the senior Ibrox man must be absolutely ruthless when it comes to moving on much of the deadwood at the Light Blues.
With Kranjcar already having left and Bates agreeing a pre-contract switch to Germans Hamburg, the Gers will have a very different look next season as they try to win the title back from bitter rivals Celtic.
There could quite feasibly be an entire team of players leaving Ibrox over the coming months if Allen can do what is needed and clear out many of the highly-paid, under-performing dross on the Gers payroll.
The likes of Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso, Eduardo Herrera and Michael O’Halloran should all told to find a new club elsewhere after failing to perform for the Gers.
The departure of Bates suggest the Gers have better quality replacements lined up to come to Ibrox in the summer but, with an already bloated squad, the Light Blues need to make sure they aren’t going to be left with an expensive flop simply going through the motions.
With a little over six weeks until the transfer window opens, there should hopefully be many more announcements of players leaving Ibrox to come.
In other Rangers news, Gers fans were blown away by this winger’s performance in the 4-0 win over Breidablik.
