Agbonlahor: Alli knows 'it's now or never' at Tottenham after Opta reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli knows “it is now or never” following his match-winning goal at Wolves today.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa and England striker said missing out on this summer’s Euros would have been “a big wake-up call” for the 25-year-old.

Alli scored his first goal of the season on Sunday as Spurs maintained their winning start to the campaign with a 1-0 win at Molineux.

The attacking midfielder has made an impressive start to the season under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo while operating in a midfield three.

There has been a marked shift in Alli’s play and against Man City last weekend he covered more ground than any other player. (Opta)

When asked by Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley for his thoughts on Alli’s start to the season, Agbonlahor said:

“A big wake-up call for Dele Alli would have been seeing all of his friends play at the Euros and not being involved himself.

“I think it will have hurt because the likes of Jack Grealish and Mason Mount effectively took his spot in the side.

“Alli, Jesse Lingard, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will all want to win their places back but to do that they know they are going to have to have the best season of their careers.

“It is now or never really for players like Dele Alli. He will know that he has to perform.”
