Agbonlahor: Aston Villa 'definitely trying to get rid' of two senior stars amid Bertrand Traore claim
Aston Villa will try and move on Anwar El Ghazi and Morgan Sanson but may keep hold of Bertrand Traore, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed Traore needs to make a “statement” in 2022-23.
The Athletic reported earlier this week (20 June) that El Ghazi and Sanson may leave the club this summer while they have not decided on Traore’s future.
El Ghazi, 27, has a year left on his current contract while Traore’s, 26, current deal runs into 2024 and 27-year-old Sanson’s deal is up 12 months later.
“El Ghazi, definitely, they will be trying to get rid of him,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Sanson as well, I’m sure he’ll want to go play some football.

“For Aston Villa, they will probably want to bring in another midfielder so he’s not going to play as much.
“There are some players they won’t let go though. Traore they might want to keep around.
“Next season is going to be a crazy season with it being a World Cup year. There are going to be injuries and a lot of tight turnaround with games so you’re going to need a bigger squad.
“As much as managers will want to shift players that they don’t think are going to play, they’ll be thinking ‘You know what, if we get a few injuries he’s one that I would like to be there’.
“There are certain players like Traore and Kortney Hause who Gerrard will want to keep around because if you get two centre-halves injured, like Mings and Carlos then you’re just left with Konsa and Chambers. That fifth centre-half this season, that extra striker is what managers are going to want.
“With Traore, it’s really time for them to give back to Aston Villa and show what they can do.
“Traore I think can do that. He will want to be positive and make a statement at the club.
