Agbonlahor: Aston Villa tipped to seal two new 'experienced' signings after confirmed news

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Aston Villa to sign replacements for exit-bound pair Ahmed Elmohamady and Neil Taylor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer suggested Jed Steer will become Villa’s second-choice goalkeeper after Tom Heaton’s departure.

Aston Villa announced last week that Ahmed Elmohamady, Neil Taylor and Tom Heaton will leave Villa Park at the end of June when their contract expires.

As first revealed by Football Insider, Heaton rejected a new deal with Villa and instead opted to return to Manchester United.

“I think the goalkeeper position is OK, Jed Steer is still a good goalkeeper to be number two,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“But left-back, they’ll definitely need a left-back. Matt Target has been outstanding but maybe they need an experienced left-back who will understand they’re a back-up.

“Neil Taylor did a very good job for Villa. He was always there and available. He wasn’t the sort of guy to moan when he’s not playing.

“You can’t bring in a left-back who thinks they’re going to play every week. Matt Target is Mr Consistent. He won players’ player of the year.

“Definitely an experienced left-back and at right-back as well. A similar sort of thing. Matty Cash is young and outstanding. But he does get a few injuries so you need to have good cover.

“And maybe you bring in a left-back and a right-back to push to start because it will help Cash and Targett. It’s always good at clubs when there’s competition for every place.

“But with the goalkeeper, Jed Steer is good enough to be number two.”

In other news, Aston Villa have set their sights on signing a striker from a north-west club and £40million will seal the deal.
