Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Aston Villa to sign a “world-class” left-footed winger in the summer transfer window.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Villa captain insisted it will not be easy for Villa to find the right man and will face stiff competition from their rivals.
Football Insider understands the Midlands giants are in the market for two wide forwards as they attempt to keep hold of talisman Jack Grealish.
That was before it was revealed Trezeguet will likely be out for a year after suffering a devastating ACL injury against Liverpool last month.
“You don’t want anyone out for that long, Wesley was out for that long,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“I think Aston Villa would look for another winger even if Trezegeut didn’t get an injury. I feel that in that area, you’re wingers have got to be really on it.
“Aston Villa have been known for world-class wingers. I’m sure they’ll be looking at that in the market.
“They’ll re-evaluate the market and look at the situation and see who’s available.
“[Anwar] El Ghazi is a good option on the left, [Bertrand] Traore has had some games and he’s had some games where he knows he can do better.
“Maybe another left-footed winger, coming in for the right with a bit more speed.
“We’ll have to see. These types of signings are not easy to find. They’ll be a lot of clubs after similar players.
“But I’m sure Aston Villa will make the right signing at the right time.”
