Agbonlahor: Aston Villa told to launch 'cut-price' swoop for Celtic ace Edouard as door opens

Gabby Agbonlahor has told Aston Villa to launch a late bid for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League striker insisted a cut-price move for the striker would be a “no-brainer”.

Football Insider learned on 19 June the door has opened for West Ham to sign Edouard as Leicester City finalise the signing of Patson Daka.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported today (22 June) Daka’s move to the Foxes from RB Salzburg is a “done deal”.

Leicester are not expected to add two new strikers this summer with Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy already on the books.

Edouard is still expected to leave Celtic this summer and West Ham are now weighing up whether to make a move.

Asked whether he would like to see Villa enter the race for the 23-year-old, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “1,000 per cent.

“If I was Aston Villa I’d go for him.

“He’d just add more physicality when Aston Villa are playing against teams with three centre-backs, they could play two strikers in Edouard and Watkins.

“It would just help the load that’s on Watkins.

“And for a cut-price, which it will be, it’s a no-brainer. I rate him really highly.”

Edouard did not enjoy his best season in Glasgow last term but still finished as the Scottish Premiership’s top scorer with 16 goals in 26 games.

The France Under-21 international has scored 83 times in 168 appearances for the Bhoys since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain, initially on loan, in 2017.

In other news, Leeds United have opened talks to sign the “next Van Dijk” from Celtic.
