Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed there is more chance of Aston Villa selling Villa Park than Emiliano Martinez.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted the Argentine is “unsellable” and “indispensable” to the Midlands giants.
Football Insider revealed last week Manchester United are plotting a blockbuster offer for Martinez as they prepare a major overhaul of their keeping ranks.
The 28-year-old moved to Aston Villa from Arsenal for a deal worth up to £20million last summer and has been a revelation.
He has kept 14 clean sheets in 28 Premier League games this season – twice as many as Villa kept in the whole of last season.
Villa used four goalkeepers in the league last season and Agbonlahor has insisted the stability Martinez brings means he cannot be sold at any cost.
He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “There’s more chance of them selling the stadium than selling Martinez.
“He’s been that good this season – he’s indispensable to the club. He’ll be going nowhere, no matter what they offer.
“They could double the £20million we paid and Villa would still turn it down.
“Having a class goalkeeper is the base that you need in the Premier League, many teams haven’t and that’s why they struggle.
“For me, he’s unsellable and they will not be selling him.”
Martinez made a rare mistake on Sunday for Spurs’ opening goal in their 2-1 win as Villa’s European hopes continued to falter.
Since Jack Grealish picked up a shin injury last month, Villa have won just once in their last six games and now find themselves seven points off the top six.
