Agbonlahor backs Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to complete 'perfect' move after Liverpool source's reveal

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is “not good enough” to play for Liverpool anymore, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker backed Oxlade-Chamberlain for a “perfect” move back to Southampton.

Sources told Football Insider last week (16 November) that Liverpool are set to offer the 29-year-old back to his boyhood club ahead of the January transfer window.

If the former England international does not Anfield in the winter window it is expected he will leave the club when his contract expires in the summer.

Jurgen Klopp wants to sign a marquee midfielder which would open the door for Oxlade-Chamberlain to leave the club.

“I think Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has to leave Liverpool,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Liverpool are trying to get back to challenging for the title after a bad first few months.

“Oxlade-Chamberlian with his injury record and when he gets a chance he doesn’t perform to the level Liverpool need, it makes sense to let him go play somewhere.

“Southampton could be the perfect club for him to get his football back on track, get his career back on track because he doesn’t want to be at Liverpool where he doesn’t get a chance because he’s simply not good enough anymore.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain has only played four times across all competitions this season including appearances in three of Liverpool’s last four Premier League games.

He has scored 17 goals and provided 15 assists in 137 games across all competitions for the Reds since his £35million move from Arsenal in the summer of 2017.
