Agbonlahor can’t believe ‘crazy and ridiculous’ cost of Tottenham signing Bale after big update
Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed Gareth Bale’s “crazy and ridiculous” wage demands could stop Tottenham from signing him permanently.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa and England striker insisted the north London outfit will wait until the end of the season before making any decision on the winger.
Bale, 31, is enjoying his best form since arriving back at his former club in the summer and has scored six goals and provided two assists in his last six games across all competitions.
This site revealed Jose Mourinho is planning to start the Welshman in the majority of their remaining games this season as they look to secure a top-four place and go all the way in the Europa League.
Spanish outlet Defensa Central report Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane does not want the Welshman back no matter how well he plays between now and the end of the campaign.
The Guardian reported just before the loan deal was completed in the summer that Bale currently earns a basic wage of £600,000-a-week from Madrid.
Asked whether Tottenham will want to sign Bale permanently, Agboblahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “You look at the way he’s playing recently, then yes.
“But it’s still early, his wages are that ridiculous and crazy that Spurs are going to look at it and think, ‘You’ve done well for the last five or six games but you missed half of the season, in the last 11 or 12 games you have to keep up these performances before we even dare think about a permanent move.’
“They’ve got to make sure he doesn’t get injured, he stays fit and keeps his performances going.
“They won’t fork out anything before the end of the season and they can see where his stats add up with the investment that they’ve made.”
In other news, a high-flying club have made an approach to re-sign a “phenomenal” Tottenham player.
