Agbonlahor can’t believe Gabriel criticism after ‘cringey’ Arsenal reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed he has nothing but “respect” for the Arsenal players who have hit back at Ivan Toney.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker admitted he would do similar if an opponent had mocked him.

Toney tweeted after Brentford’s 2-0 win over Arsenal on the opening day of last season that it was a “nice kick about”.

Since then, Arsenal are unbeaten against the Bees and beat them 3-0 away from home last weekend (18 September).

Gabriel tweeted a similar message to Toney after the game.

As quoted by the Daily Mail earlier this week (20 September) that he found Gabriel’s message “cringey”.

“I think you’ve got to respect it,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“If I was Arsenal, I’d be exactly the same. If someone had said ‘Nice kick about with the boys’, I would be the same.

“Definitely, you’re going to bring it up. I don’t think the Arsenal players are in the wrong at all.

“Toney, sometimes when you speak after games, you might bring that on. He’s big enough to know that.

“Maybe next time he scores against Arsenal, he might say something similar. He could score and have the argument again.

“I don’t think there’s anything to hold onto there, it’s one of those things in football. You say things and it comes to bite you on the backside.

“Toney will be concentrating on his England call up, he’s not going to be concentrating on that.

“A team like Arsenal should be beating Brentford. As much as they had the right to say it, they should be beating Brentford.”
