Agbonlahor can’t believe Tottenham transfer could collapse after Antonio Conte development
Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Tottenham transfer targets won’t be put off by the uncertainty surrounding Antonio Conte’s future at the club.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Lilywhites are capable of replacing the Italian with another top manager if he decides to move on.
Conte’s contract expires at the end of the season and a new agreement doesn’t seem close despite reports of several rounds of talks since the end of the 2021-22 campaign.
As quoted by Sky Sports (3 January), the Italian insisted he is “happy” and “committed” at Spurs, but claimed “1000 things could happen” between now and the end of his deal.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (2 January) that pressure is growing on the Tottenham board to secure new signings early in the January window with right wing-back, centre-back and attack the priority areas.
Conte’s side sit fifth in the Premier League after winning just two of their last seven games – leaking 15 goals in the process.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I don’t think the transfer targets will be concerned about Conte’s future.
“He’ll play a big part in getting them to the club, but they’re still a big club in terms of the Premier League – and they’ve still got Champions League football to play this season.
“Conte might want to wait until the end of the season to see where they finish before committing to a new contract, but I don’t think the players should be worrying about that.

“Tottenham won’t be held to ransom; they can get a top manager in to replace Conte if they need to.
“I don’t think it will be in the thought process.”
