Costa may be keen to quit Leeds after Mendes reveal - Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Helder Costa could thrive in La Liga if he was to quit Leeds United this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested the winger may be keen to test his talents in another league.

Football Insider learned on 16 July super agent Jorge Mendes is brokering Costa’s potential exit this summer.

It is understood he believes the Spanish top-flight would be perfect for the 27-year-old.

The Athletic‘s Phil Hay reported on 16 July Valencia are monitoring Costa’s situation.

Mendes has worked with the La Liga club a lot in recent years and has brokered multiple deals with the club.

He struggled to nail down a regular place in Marcelo Bielsa’s side last term and managed just 22 Premier League appearances, including 13 starts.

“Sometimes players match different leagues,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if he went to Valencia and did very well because it’s a slower league and he’s got good pace and technique. I think he will do well in La Liga if it happens.

“It’s just sometimes the Premier League can be harder for certain type of players.

“That doesn’t surprise me and maybe the player himself, after being in England for a few years, wants to try a different league out.”

Costa’s 69 appearances across all competitions for Leeds have yielded eight goals and 11 assists.

The Whites paid Wolves £15million for the winger last summer after he spent the previous campaign on a season-long loan.
