Agbonlahor delivers Davies verdict after Ian Wright's 'massive' Everton claim
Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Tom Davies did the right thing by passing up an opportunity to shoot and win the game for Everton against Man United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker did suggest Davies may be low on confidence but the blame must be placed at Yerry Mina’s feet for not staying onside.
Davies received the ball on the edge of the box with nobody in front of him during the dying stages at Old Trafford.
Instead of shooting at De Gea he opted to play the ball across the goal for Mina to tap into the net.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Ian Wright insisted Davies should have shot and his decision suggests he is “massively low on confidence”.
“It’s all ifs and buts,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“What if he shot and missed? Then people would say he should have passed to Mina who may have timed his run and had an open goal to aim at.
“I don’t think it was a wrong decision. It was the right decision but Mina was just too eager to get there.
“But maybe it’s to do with his confidence as well. Maybe it’s a bit down so he passed it.
“If Mina had timed his run we’d all be saying ‘That’s great unselfish play from Tom Davies’.”
Football Insider revealed on September 27 Southampton are keeping tabs on Davies’ situation at Goodison Park amid uncertainty over his long-term future.
He is out of contract in the summer of 2023 and is yet to start a Premier League match under Rafa Benitez.
