Gabby Agbonlahor is not convinced Aston Villa need to sign Rangers defender Filip Helander.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted the Sweden international would be fourth choice centre-back at Villa Park if he was to move.
Swedish outlet Aftonbladet report both Villa and Leicester City are interested in the 27-year-old.
This site understands it would take a bid of at least £6million to prise Helander away from Ibrox.
The commanding centre-back arrived in Glasgow from Italian side Bologna for £3.5m in the summer of 2019.
He has played 26 games across all competitions this season as Rangers secured a 55th Scottish Premiership title and progressed to the last 16 of the Europa League.
At Aston Villa, Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa have emerged as one of the strongest centre-backs in the Premier League.
And with Kortney Hause providing excellent cover, Agbonlahor has claimed there is no room for Helander.
Asked if Villa need to sign another defender like Helander, he told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “No, I don’t think we do.
“We’ve got Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa who rarely get injured and then you’ve got Kortney Hause on the bench who’s the perfect replacement if there are injuries.
“So no, I don’t think so. I think we could use that money in more attacking areas.”
Helander’s value could soar further this summer as he is set to play a key role for Sweden in the European Championships.
He played the full 90 minutes in both of their World Cup qualifiers during the current international break.
