Rangers attacker Ryan Kent’s recent slump may be because his contract situation has not been resolved.
That is the view of former Premier League striker Gabriel Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 24-year-old’s recent performances.
This site revealed earlier this week Rangers have not been able to agree a new contract with Kent because of a complication caused by him changing representation.
The Ibrox giants have been eager since October to tie down the Oldham-born star to a better deal to reflect his increased importance in the squad.
This site broke the news last year he had ditched the Crown Agency and was now represented by his family again and issues with the switch are holding up contract talks.
After a terrific start to the season where he scored five goals and provided a further five assists in his first nine games, Kent’s recent form has suffered.
He has not scored in the league since the end of November and his average WhoScored rating has suffered.
Kent recorded a WhoScored rating of less than seven out of 10 in five of his last six Scottish Premiership games.
And Agbonlahor has suggested the prolonged nature of his contract talks could be behind it.
He told Football Insider: “Sometimes when you’ve not sorted your contract out it could be on your mind.
“Your agent might be in your ear saying ‘this club’s interested, that club’s interested’ and sometimes it can ruin your performances.
“Look at Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund, it affected him this season.
“It’s definitely something Rangers should get sorted as soon as possible so he can get back to playing his best football.”
Despite his recent mini-slump, Kent has still found the net six times and recorded 11 assists in 31 games across all competitions this term.
In other news, Football Insider understands Rangers are working on multiple January pre-contract signings as a winger rejects a deal.
