Agbonlahor issues verdict on Douglas Luiz's Aston Villa future as deal is done
Boubacar Kamara’s arrival may not spell the end of Douglas Luiz’s Aston Villa career, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed Steven Gerrard may want to keep hold of Luiz and Marvelous Nakamba so he has three defensive midfield options.
The club confirmed on Monday (23 May) that they had signed Kamara from Marseille on a free transfer and he has signed a five-year deal.
As quoted by club media, Gerrad hailed the 22-year-old as “one of the most promising young talents in European football”.
“It’s good to get a free transfer in,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“He’s 22 so could he be the answer for our defensive midfielder problem? I’m hoping he is because Douglas Luiz has done Ok but he’s not going to get Aston Villa to where they want to go.

“Villa need a defensive midfielder who can get the ball back better. I’m sure that’s what Steven Gerrard has looked at with Kamara so hopefully, he’s the answer.
“Will Steven Gerrard keep Luiz and keep Nakamba? Because next season is going to be a crazy season.
“With five subs, it’s going to be a crazy season so maybe he wants to keep Luiz around.
“One coming in is enough. With Kamara coming in, you’ve got Kamara, Luiz and Nakamba who can all play that role.”
Kamara played 170 times for Marseille across all competitions, including 28 appearances in European competitions.
His performances this season saw him called into the France squad for the first time last week (19 May) for their upcoming Nations League games.
