Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Leicester City could offer Brendan Rodgers a bumper pay rise to stop him from quitting for Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England striker insisted “Leicester have got big money” and could increase Rodgers’ already “very good” wages.

Football Insider understands Tottenham have made the 48-year-old their top target to replace Jose Mourinho and will offer him a £15million annual salary.

That would represent a £10million increase on his current salary at the King Power Stadium.

Sky Sports reported last month the Northern Irishman was not interested in the job as he believes Leicester have the opportunity to regularly challenge for the European places.

Asked whether an improved financial could persuade him to change his mind, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “It could do.

“But if that was the offer Leicester will try and match it. Leicester have got money. Let’s not be fooled here, Leicester have got big money. I know for a fact Brendan Rodgers is earning very good money there.

“If he can get them into the Champions League and Spurs aren’t in the Champions League the bonuses he’s probably going to get for getting them into the Champions League means he won’t be far off anyway.

“No, I don’t see that happening, I think he’s got a great project that he’s built up at Leicester and I don’t see him leaving, not one bit.”

Leicester are currently third in the Premier League with four games left to play.

Spurs occupy sixth position and are five points off the Champions League places.

In other news, Tottenham have made an approach to sign a £30million-valued defender and a “gentleman’s agreement” has been reached over a transfer.
