Agbonlahor lambasts Tuanzebe after 'nonsense' Aston Villa claim
Gabby Agbonlahor has hit back at Axel Tuanzebe’s agent after he claimed Steven Gerrard did not play him at Aston Villa because of the rivalry between Liverpool and Man United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted Tuanzebe’s lack of game time was because he was simply not as good as Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa and Kortney Hause.
The defender left Villa on Saturday (8 January) and returned to Man United to be loaned straight back out to Napoli until the end of the season.
His agent Dimitri Tuanzebe told ESPN on Monday (10 January) he felt Gerrard’s association with Liverpool was stopping his client’s chances of having a sustained run in the team.
Axel managed just eight minutes of Premier League action across two substitute appearances under Gerrard.
“No, that’s nonsense, Gerrard will not be bothered about that,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s just is not better than Mings, Konsa or Hause. Tuanzebe was the fourth-best centre-back at the club.
“It wouldn’t matter if Sir Alex Ferguson came to Villa or the guy that brought him onto the scene was the manager, he was the fourth-best.
“His agent needs to stop that sort of talk. He’s at Napoli now, go and prove Villa wrong at Napoli, go show how good you are.
“He was definitely fourth-choice centre-back at Aston Villa.
“It’s boring, someone like Gerrard will ignore that.”
Tuanzebe has enjoyed three spells on loan at Villa amassing 46 appearances across all competitions.
He was part of the side that won promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in the 2018-19 campaign.
