Agbonlahor laments Aston Villa 'bad news' amid Douglas Luiz claim

Boubacar Kamara’s injury will give Douglas Luiz or Marvelous Nakamba the opportunity to prove their worth at Aston Villa, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Aston Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed Kamara’s injury justifies the club’s decision to keep Luiz.

Aston Villa confirmed on Friday (23 September) that the 22-year-old had suffered a knee injury in their 1-0 win over Southampton last week (16 September).

Luiz replaced Kamra just before half-time in the victory over the Saints.

Sources told Football Insider earlier this month (10 September) that the 24-year-old has told friends he wants to join Arsenal after they failed with a bid of £25million in the summer transfer window.

The Brazil international has less than a year left to run on his contract at Villa Park.

“We’re getting a bit unlucky now with injuries,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“[Diego] Carlos was one, that was a big one because he would have been a guaranteed starter. Now it’s Kamara.

“It just shows how important it was to keep Douglas Luiz and not let him go to Arsenal.

“Clubs like Villa have been clever. You have to think long-term, it’s a long season and injuries can happen to anyone so you can’t just have a small squad.

“It’s bad news but it’s a chance for Luiz or Nakamba, who did well last season, to come back in.

“Villa have got options in that position and it’s bad luck for Kamara but an opportunity for someone else to come in.”

Luiz has featured in six of Aston Villa’s seven Premier League games this term but has only made two starts.

Nakamba has not featured for Steven Gerrard’s side this season but has been named on the bench three times.

In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Aston Villa have a “concerning” wage issue amid a £659million reveal.
