Agbonlahor: Newcastle United backed to agree Bruno Guimaraes deal after record-breaking reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Bruno Guimaraes to sign a new contract with Newcastle United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Guimaraes may think about leaving in the future but for now he will be committed to the project at Newcastle.

The 24-year-old only moved to St. James’ Park in January and his current contract expires in the summer of 2026.

He told Sky Sports on Sunday (23 October) that he has settled quickly at Newcastle and “feels like a geordie”.

Sources told Football Insider earlier this month (15 October) that the club are preparing a record contract offer for Guimaraes that would run until 2028 and be worth £200,000-a-week.

That would cost Newcastle £60million in wages alone.

Asked whether Guimaraes would be open to a new contract, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think he will, yes.

“I understand it from Newcastle, they’re looking at it and thinking ‘You know what, we have to tie this guy up because teams are going to try and steal him from us’.

“They should do, he’s a very talented player and I’m sure he’ll be looking at the project and think it’s exciting where it could go.

“I don’t think there’s any chance of him leaving yet, no way. Maybe in future, but at the moment, I think he wants to be part of the project there.”

Guimaraes moved to Newcastle from Lyon for £40million at the turn of the year.

The Brazil international has played 26 times in the Premier League for the club and is already in double figures for goal contributions.

In other news, Newcastle United have been backed to sign a Miguel Almiron replacement in January after a “brilliant” development.
