Agbonlahor: Nottingham Forest told to U-turn after confirmed Steve Cooper news

Nottingham Forest should sack Steve Cooper, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Cooper looks “out of his depth” in the “big boy league”.

Forest are bottom of the Premier League table after losing their last five games.

Despite the club’s poor start to the season, they confirmed this week (7 October) that Cooper had signed a new three-year contract at the City Ground.

“I would sack him, to be honest,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s done well for them in the Championship but this is the big boy league. Forest haven’t been in the Premier League for 20-odd years and they can’t afford to go down again.

“There is no sentiment in football. I would sack him and bring in a more experienced manager in the Premier League to work with these players.

“He looks out of his depth. You don’t know what team he is going to start, you don’t know which players are going to play where.

“It was a local derby. I know you’re new to the Premier League but make it difficult, you can’t get turned over 4-0.

“When you bring in that many players, is it ever going to work?”

Nottingham Forest

Cooper took over at Nottingham Forest in September 2021 when they were bottom of the Championship and guided them to promotion via the play-offs.

The Welshman has previously enjoyed spells in charge of Swansea City and various England youth teams.
