Agbonlahor: Poveda is 'done' at Leeds United after source update

Ian Poveda will find it near impossible to work his way back into Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United plans, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa Villa and England striker suggested Poveda will be looking for a new club after his demotion.

Football Insider revealed on 13 August the winger had been dropped from Bielsa’s first-team squad and demoted to the Under-23s.

This site then updated on 17 August he is now in line for a late-window exit after being left out of Monday’s Under-23s.

It is understood there has been a fallout behind the scenes and the latest from a Leeds source is that Poveda could now leave on loan or even permanently before the end of the month.

The 21-year-old moved to Elland Road from Manchester City in January 2020 and has featured in 20 games across all competitions.

That includes 14 Premier League appearances last term, all of which came from the bench.

Asked for his assessment of Poveda’s future, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Bielsa looks like the sort of guy that if you fall out with him, you’re done at Leeds.

“He doesn’t sign long-term contracts at clubs, he signs a year. The likelihood of him coming back within that year is very low.

“He looks like a no-nonsense manager so I can imagine Poveda is looking for a different club if he has been demoted.”

Poveda, an ex-England Under-20 international, is yet to find the net for Leeds.

He has one assist to his name in his 20 first-team games.

In other news, a Leeds United player has finalised his exit after a deal is agreed and a medical is underway.
