Agbonlahor savages Kostas Tsimikas and Liverpool midweek starter – ‘they shouldn’t play again’

Gabby Agbonlahor has slammed the “dreadful” performances of Liverpool duo Kostas Tsimikas and Curtis Jones in a rare outing against Chelsea on Tuesday (4 April).

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the pair shouldn’t play again in the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign.

Jurgen Klopp made six changes for the 0-0 draw with Chelsea on Tuesday (4 April), with Tsimikas and Jones coming into the squad – and the likes of Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson rested.

But fringe stars also including Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino were also unable to impress in a dour Liverpool performance at Stamford Bridge.

Tsimikas has made just 13 Reds starts this season, while Jones was making just his third start of the season.

Liverpool are now 10 points adrift of the Premier League’s top four with 10 games left to play – starting with the visit of league leaders Arsenal on Sunday (9 April).

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Players like Salah and Robertson play every game.

“There are three games this week, so I’ll let Klopp get away with making the changes.

“When you’ve got a squad of players, you need to be able to use and trust them.

“He brought in Tsimikas – and he was dreadful.

“Curtis Jones came in, and he’s not good enough. He didn’t do anything good in the whole game.

“I don’t think they should be playing again this season.

“These players aren’t at the right level. But at least his main starting eleven got a rest.

“They just seem a million miles off the Liverpool team we’re all used to.”
