Agbonlahor shares 'big' verdict on Aston Villa signing 'unstoppable force' Loftus-Cheek

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Aston Villa will only want to do permanent deals this summer and will therefore not pursue a loan move for Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer claimed Dean Smith will have learnt his lesson after Ross Barkley’s failed spell with the club.

The Daily Star report Villa assistant boss John Terry is a big admirer of Loftus-Cheek and wants to bring him to Villa Park on loan for the 2021-22 campaign.

Barkley has just completed a season-long spell at the Midlands outfit that did not live up to expectations after an excellent start.

Football Insider learned in March that the club paid Chelsea an £11million fee to take Barkley on loan.

And it is for that reason Agbonlahor has insisted Villa should not pursue a deal for Loftus-cheek.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “He’s a good player.

“But look at Barkley. Barkley did OK for parts of the season but overall, Dean Smith and John Terry will be disappointed overall with how it went.

“Loftus-Cheek may be a big signing. But these players are on big wages and there’s going to be big loan fees for these players.

“I see Aston Villa looking at more permanent deals that can come in.

“Trezeguet’s out for a long time so they need to bring in competition for El Ghazi and Traore.

“There are definitely some players that need to come in so I don’t see them overspending on a loan for Loftus-Cheek or Barkley.”

Loftus-Cheek’s best season for Chelsea came during the 2018-19 campaign as they lifted the Europa League trophy.

BT Sport pundit Owen Hargreaves labelled him an “unstoppable force” during their European run.

In other news, Aston Villa have set their sights on signing a striker from a north-west club and £40million will seal the deal.
