Agbonlahor ‘sure’ about Evan Ferguson joining Tottenham after source’s talks reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Brighton starlet Evan Ferguson to snub a move to Tottenham and remain on the south coast.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 18-year-old risks stagnating his development as he would struggle for game time at Spurs.

Sources told this site on Monday (27 March) that Tottenham are among the Premier League clubs interested in signing Ferguson this summer – with Chelsea and Man United also monitoring his situation.

However, Football Insider updated on Wednesday (29 March) to reveal that Brighton are set to open talks with the striker sensation over a new contract – and are confident of keeping him at the Amex Stadium.

He has netted seven goals in 20 Brighton appearances and scored on his first Republic of Ireland start last week (22 March).

Tottenham already have esteemed forwards like Harry Kane, Richarlison, Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski on the books in north London.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I just don’t see why anyone would leave Brighton at the moment.

“He’s getting first-team football, he’s learning his trade – why would you go?

“Even Kaoru Mitoma, just don’t leave. Get a good couple of seasons under your belt and go from there – just as Leandro Trossard did.

“I think Ferguson should stay put, for sure. If you join Spurs, you’re behind Richarlison and Kane and it will be so hard to get past them.

“You might earn a bit more money, but you’ve got to think of your career. He’s got plenty of good years ahead of him.”
