Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Ezri Konsa to go to a new level at Aston Villa after he was omitted from the England squad.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer backed the 23-year-old to eventually win an England cap.
Konsa has been a mainstay alongside Three Lions star Tyrone Mings in a Villa defence that have kept 14 clean Premier League clean sheets all season.
He was touted for an England call-up for this month’s World Cup qualifiers but was snubbed by Gareth Southgate.
Instead, John Stones was recalled to the squad while Harry Maguire, Eric Dier, Conor Coady and Mings were called up.
Asked whether Konsa will use the snub as motivation, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Yes, definitely.
“He’s still new to the Premier League, he’s still learning with every game and every different opponent he comes up against.
“When you play in the Premier League regularly, you become used to it and you know what you’re up against and that helps.
“He’ll get better and better. I’m sure he’ll fulfil that dream of playing for England. He’s just got to keep working hard and not let it affect his performances.
“Just keep putting in performances and sooner or later they won’t be able to ignore him.”
Konsa moved to Villa Park from Brentford at the beginning of last season and spent last season in and out of Dean Smith’s side.
In total, he has played 51 Premier League games and has scored three goals.
