Agbonlahor: Tottenham told to seal £20m deal for ‘perfect’ Vinicius after fee already agreed
Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Tottenham will try and sign Carlos Vinicius for £20million as it was revealed they do not plan to take up their £38million option in his loan deal.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa and England forward insisted the 25-year-old is the “perfect” back up striker to Harry Kane.
This site broke the news last week Spurs have no intention of converting the striker’s loan into a permanent deal at the fee agreed last summer.
The north London outfit paid Benfica a £2.7million loan fee for the season and have an option to make the deal permanent for £38million that expires at the end of June.
“He’s not worth £38million,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Spurs know he’s the perfect second striker for Harry Kane. A striker who’s not going to moan when he’s not playing and when he comes in if Kane’s injured he’ll do a decent job.
“He’s the perfect player that Spurs need.
“He’s never going to score loads and loads of goals in the Premier League, he’s just an above-average player.
“Spurs are thinking ‘for that sort of player, we can’t just spend £37m, £20m maximum for someone like him.’
“If they can’t negotiate that then I don’t think they’ll get him at all.
“He can do a job and fits that second striker role.”
Vinicius scored his first Premier League goal on Sunday as he opened the scoring in Spurs’ 2-0 win over Aston Villa.
He now has 10 goals in 23 appearances across all competitions this term.
In other news, Mauricio Pochettino will be central to a Tottenham overhaul as multiple deals are lined up and contact is made.
