Leeds United will face stiff competition if they want to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the summer, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England striker compared Maitland-Niles’ versatility and performance levels to that of popular Whites ace Stuart Dallas.
The Mirror report the Whites are eyeing the 23-year-old along with a host of Premier League clubs.
Maitland-Niles is currently on loan at West Brom from Arsenal and has enjoyed an extended run in midfield under Sam Allardyce.
In the first half of the campaign, the England international was deployed at full-back and on the wing by Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.
Asked if Maitland-Niles would be a good signing for Leeds, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “100 per cent.
“I think he would be a good signing for a lot of teams. I wouldn’t mind him at Villa.
“He showed at the weekend, he can play in different positions. A very good player, he can attack.
“He can play in a similar amount of positions as Dallas. Both are Mr Reliable and he could be the next Dallas.
“I’m sure there will be more teams than Leeds after him. I don’t see him going back to Arsenal and playing so it’s probably the right decision for him to move on.”
Maitland-Niles now has 74 Premier League games under his belt for Arsenal and West Brom.
He has played 121 games for Arsenal across all competitions including a stunning display in last season’s FA Cup final triumph over Chelsea.
