Agbonlahor wowed by Howe-Everton update via Sky

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Eddie Howe is the “best” candidate for the Everton job.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward delivered his verdict after it was reported the Toffees are considering up to eight candidates to replace Carlo Ancelotti.

Football Insider first revealed Everton’s fears over Ancelotti quitting the club for Real Madrid on 19 May before he officially made the move at the beginning of June.

They were ready to unveil unpopular choice Rafa Benitez as his successor last Thursday (17 June) before he had second thoughts.

Sky Sports reported the day after he was one of up to eight candidates Everton chiefs are considering.

That list includes Howe, legendary ex-striker and current coach Duncan Ferguson and ex-Lille manager Christophe Galtier who just won the Ligue 1 title with the club.

Howe, a boyhood Everton fan, has been out of work since leaving the Cherries at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

He reached a verbal agreement to take over at Celtic at the beginning of April but talks collapsed.

Asked whether Howe would be a good fit at Everton, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Definitely.

“Out of all the managers that have been mentioned that would suit them the best, Eddie Howe.

“It would suit Everton the best. He’s a young manager with a lot of experience and I think he would be tempted by the job. Definitely.”

Howe spent 10 years in charge of Bournemouth that was interrupted by a spell as Burnley boss.

He guided the south-coast club from League Two to the Premier League before they were relegated last season.
