Agent shares Liverpool interest in midfield enforcer, valued at £34m

By Harvey Byrne

The agent of Atalanta midfielder Franck Kessie has revealed that Liverpool are interested in the player.

The 20-year-old enforcer’s agent George Atangana has shared that there is a lot of Premier League interest in his client, naming Liverpool alongside Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal.

The Guardian reported on Wednesday that Chelsea had a £21million bid already rejected for Kessie and that the Serie A side are thought to value their young starlet at £34million.

Atangana was also very complimentary of the young starlet, making the bold claim that Kessie is one of the best young player’s in the world.

“We have a lot of interest from the Premier League – Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal,” told Atangana to the Guardian. “I cannot say at this stage how much he will cost but we are talking about one of the best young players in the world. But for us the most important thing is that the technical project is the right one for him. Franck is very young so we have to be very careful about his development.

“Chelsea are very interested and it is a great club but we must take our time to consider all the options.

“Now we are in January so he has to play at the African Cup of Nations for Ivory Coast so I am not going to rush anything.”

Kessie is very highly rated after making his debut for the Ivory Coast senior team as a 17-year-old back in 2014.

He has been capped 10 times at international and boasts plenty of first team experience already at his early age.

The youngster spent last season on loan at Serie B side Cesena, where he starred in 37 fixtures, scoring four goals and providing two assists.

He has now returned to parent club Atalanta and Kessie has been a massive hit in Serie A with seven goals and two assists in 17 appearances this campaign.

He is still contracted until 2021 at the sixth placed Italian top flight side, meaning they don’t need to sell him.

However, he could be tempted by the riches of the Premier League at the early stages of his career.

Football Insider verdict:

Kessie is a bright young star and could be an asset to any side that sign him for the future. It is unlikely that he will instantly be a hit in the Premier League, but the fact he has already established dominance over Serie A at just 20 is huge. Liverpool are in need of a proper enforcer at the heart of their midfield with Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum solid in the centre of the park without having the necessary strength or power to provide a shield for a fragile back four. No one knows how Kessie will turn out in the future and £34million is a massive fee for potential, but he could become one of Europe’s best defensive midfielders and therefore Liverpool should do all they can to win the battle for his signature in January.
