‘Agreed behind closed doors’ – Alexander Isak drops Newcastle United bombshell

Alexander Isak has dropped a major update regarding his Newcastle future amid summer-long links with Liverpool.

The number 14 has been constantly linked with Liverpool in an affair which has spanned the whole summer window.

Reported Newcastle insiders suggested Isak could return to the first team squad after not featuring at all during pre-season due to uncertainty over his future.

On the evening of the PFA Premier League 2024-25 awards where Mohamed Salah tipped Arsenal to win the title, the Swede has now dropped some monumental news on his current situation with Newcastle.

Alexander Isak breaks silence on Newcastle United saga

Taking to Instagram stories (19 August), the Sweden international gave a long and profound reason for why he did not attend the annual awards ceremony despite being recognised in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024-25.

The forward let the fans know about his situation, saying: “I’m proud to be recognised by my fellow professionals with a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024-25.

“First and foremost I want to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has supported me along the way.

“I’m not at the ceremony tonight. With everything going on, it didn’t feel right to be there.

“I’ve kept quiet for a long time while other have spoken. That silence has allowed peple to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.

“The reality is that promises were made and that club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading.

“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where thinsg are for me right now – and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”

The 25-year-old signed off the groundbreaking message with his name.

Liverpool given huge encouragement

Football Insider verdict

A transfer which nobody knew was going to happen has now gotten much more likely to go through before the end of August.

The Swede has shown his discontent at St James’ Park for the whole transfer window and this new message clearly shows that the ongoing saga has been painted in a very different light than first thought.

For the Reds, this will give them a major boost to land the former Real Sociedad starlet and bolster their strike force which could turn them into one of the deadliest attacks in the world.

Bids from Liverpool in excess of £100million have been rejected by the Toon but, with this humongous news, I wonder if Eddie Howe will be sweating profusely at what the board might be thinking now.

Arne Slot will be in intense conversations with Richard Hughes over their careful, tactical next steps as they now go within touching distance of bringing the man they wanted all summer long to Anfield.

All of us would love to be a fly on the wall of Newcastle’s training pitch and board meetings as this revelation has sent the situation completely nuclear.
