Rangers have sealed the perfect deal ahead of Old Firm showdown v Celtic
COMMENT
Rangers have tied down Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos to an extended contract – and it is the perfect boost for Graeme Murty’s side ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm clash.
The 21-year-old has been the subject of bids from Chinese Super League side Beijing Renhe in excess of £11million but the Gers refused to let the prolific striker leave.
After scoring 17 times in 34 games since joining the Gers from HJK Helsinki for £1million in the summer, Morelos has quickly become a huge favourite with the Light Blues support and the timing of his new deal is another bit of good news at a time when there seems to bea lot of it for them.
Morelos will not be at Ibrox forever – he might not even be at Ibrox come September – but getting him to extend his deal and, almost certainly, bumping his weekly wage a bit will keep an in-form player happy and, hopefully, bring even more goals before he inevitably does move.
With the likes of Jason Cummings in reserve, there’s depth at Ibrox to cope with Morelos moving on sooner rather than later but a free-scoring end to the season and maybe even a shock place in the Colombian World Cup squad could see El Bufalo’s value continue to sky-rocket.
A couple of Old Firm goals wouldn’t do him any harm either.
