Alan Brazil: This is how much Ray Wilkins enjoyed his time at Rangers
TalkSport host Alan Brazil has revealed Ray Wilkins’ “favourite time in football” was his two-year spell at Rangers after the former Chelsea, Manchester United, AC Milan and QPR midfielder died on Wednesday.
Wilkins was with the Gers between 1987 and 1989 and lifted the first of what would become nine titles in a row for the Ibrox giants.
Brazil revealed that although he played for the likes of Manchester United, AC Milan, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, it was his spell in Glasgow that Wilkins enjoyed the most.
“Only last week we shared jokes about Aliens on TalkSport and he was having none of it. A proper football man Ray, who played for some of the best teams on the planet. When we touched on his favourite time in football, was it Chelsea? Was it Milan? Was it United? No it was Rangers,” Brazil said on his personal Twitter account.

Wilkins made 96 appearances, scoring four times, for the Gers and won a Scottish title and Scottish League Cup before heading back south for the first of three stints with QPR.
The Englishman famously scored against Celtic at Ibrox when he drove a stunning right-foot volley into the top corner to help the Light Blues on their way to a 5-1 victory in August 1988.

Football Insider verdict:
Wilkins’ time at Ibrox may have only lasted two years but it was enough to earn him a place in the club’s Hall of Fame after playing his part in the club’s nine titles in a row. Wilkins returned to Scottish football almost a decade later with Hibs and he was still a quality player then. Butch joins a long list of ‘outsiders’ who come to Scotland to play for the Ibrox giants and leave absolutely in love with the club. What the Gers would give for someone of Wilkins’ quality in a blue jersey now.
