Alan Shearer jokes in reaction to Newcastle defeat to Burnley

By Russell Edge

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has said that the Magpies cannot complain about the result after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor on Monday.

In a game lacking in attacking quality, manager Rafael Benitez saw his side fall to Jeff Hendrick’s second half goal, which came after a mistake further up the pitch by Ayoze Perez.

The match did not demonstrate the best that the Premier League has to offer, playing out as a dull affair for the neutral, which left Shearer joking on his personal Twitter account that the players will be dying to watch it all over again to analyse their performances with their clubs.

He noted just how disappointing a game it played out as, but stated that Burnley were good value for their victory over a Newcastle side who have just one win away from home this season, which came in a 1-0 victory over Swansea.

The result drops the Magpies down to ninth spot in the top flight table, having been leapfrogged by the Clarets who now lead them by two points.

They are currently five points clear of Everton in 18th, the last relegation spot, and will be hoping to return to winning ways when they welcome 19th placed Bournemouth to St James’ Park.

In other Newcastle United news, fans were left fuming over the display of this man against Burnley.
