Toby Alderweireld has stated that Tottenham must “push on” ahead of their trip to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

The 27-year-old centre-back, who was out of action since October, played 22 minutes in the 3-1 win against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League in midweek.

Additionally, he has missed the last six Premier League games for Spurs, where they have recorded nine points in his absence.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side also lost their unbeaten record during that time, a 2-1 loss to London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Ahead of their visit to Old Trafford at the weekend, Alderweireld provided his thoughts on the game.

“I’m settled in the team and I’m very proud to play for Spurs,” said Alderweireld, as posted by the club’s official Twitter account. “It’s a different season and we’re going to do everything we can to get the three points there on Sunday.

“We’ve had two wins now so we have to push on, get the results and then work very hard to get the results because it’s not easy.”

Alderweireld has made 11 Premier League and Champions League appearances this season, helping his side keep six clean sheets in the process.

Spurs recorded a thumping 5-0 victory against relegation threatened Swansea during their last league fixture.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho’s United, who picked up three points in the Europa League on Thursday night, drew 1-1 with Everton at Goodison Park.

Nonetheless, the north London outfit, who are on 27 points from 14 games, are six points ahead of United who are in sixth place.

Pochettino’s team have picked up seven wins, six draws and suffered only one loss during the 2016/17 Premier League campaign.

By contrast their top four rivals have registered five wins, six draws and three defeats.
