Alex Iwobi, Amadou Onana react to Abdoulaye Doucoure amid Everton exit admission
Abdoulaye Doucoure took to social media after scoring a dramatic winner for Everton against Nottingham Forest at The City Ground.
David Moyes‘ side looked to be heading for a seventh consecutive game without a victory, with the Mali international actually struggling to get a foothold in the game on Saturday, 12 April.
With Dwight McNeil returning to the pitch for Everton, however, his impact sparked a breakaway on the halfway line, firing the ball across for Doucoure to fire home the only goal four minutes into added time.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the match (12 April), Doucoure said: “It is maybe my last moments at the club, and at the moment, it is very quiet on the club side. I love this club. I want to stay.
“My contract is running out, so let’s see what happens in the next couple of weeks,” admitting that he would like to remain on Merseyside despite the club’s decision not to extend his contract.
Abdoulaye Doucoure gives Everton supporters a timely reminder
Taking to Instagram (12 April), Doucoure wrote: “What a feeling! We clearly deserved our victory. Enjoy your weekend, Toffees,” with a blue heart and flexed muscle emoji.
Dwight McNeil, James Tarkowski, Jarrad Branthwaite and Beto all liked the post, as did former Goodison Park stars Amadou Onana and Alex Iwobi.
David Moyes ready for squad overhaul after The Friedkin Group’s takeover
Football Insider verdict
While many supporters will be eager for Doucoure to remain with the Blues next season, the attacking midfielder’s impending departure is a sign of a new era under new leadership.
The Friedkin Group (TFG) are likely to bring a warchest for Everton, with some fans already excited about the calibre of player being linked while veterans, such as Sheffield United-linked striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, head for the exit doors.

Football Insider understands that, with plans already being made ahead of the summer transfer window, Liverpool youngster Ben Doak is on Everton’s radar, with a right-winger desperately needed.
Everton will also want to keep hold of Branthwaite, who is attracting interest from all over Europe, but the new owners might be able to find a suitable replacement if an irresistible offer comes in this summer.
TFG are unlikely to go overboard with their spending, though, given that PSR restrictions still plague most of the teams in the division, but it is still an exciting prospect.
Doucoure has been a loyal player over the years, and while he is not the most technical player in the Premier League, his passion and drive are exactly what supporters will want from new stars.
