Alex Iwobi sends message to Antonee Robinson after Fulham match-winner v Man United

Fulham star Alex Iwobi sent a message to his teammate Antonee Robinson on social media after a penalty shootout win against Man United.

The American international was back in the starting line-up for the crucial FA Cup tie with the Red Devils, after Ryan Sessegnon started against Wolves in a 2-1 win on Tuesday evening (25 February).

Fulham were in control of the tie in the first half, and Calvin Bassey scored the opener for the Whites with a tidy header on the stroke of half-time.

Despite dominating possession, the Cottagers were unable to build on their early lead, and were made to pay when Bruno Fernandes levelled in the 71st minute.

The Portuguese midfielder’s strike sent the game to extra-time, where saves from Bernd Leno and Andre Onana kept the score tied at 1-1.

United scored their first three penalties, but Victor Lindelof saw his effort stopped by Leno. Robinson then stepped up and coolly sent Onana the wrong way.

With the Red Devils needing a goal to stand any chance of progressing, Joshua Zirkzee stepped up, but he too saw his shot saved by Fulham‘s German goalkeeper, sending the Whites through to the quarter-finals.

Alex Iwobi shares message with Liverpool target Antonee Robinson

Marco Silva took the bold step of resting Robinson and Iwobi against Wolves, and the decision paid off, with both players starring against United.

Iwobi has blossomed under the former Everton manager, and has now scored seven goals in all competitions this season, the highest goal-scoring return of his career.

Robinson was linked with a move to Liverpool in January, and the Fulham star once again showed his quality against United, running rings around Noussair Mazraoui.

Following the win over United, Robinson posted a series of photos from the match on Instagram, captioned: “Onto the quarters we go!!”

The former Wigan defender delighted his Nigerian international teammate, as Iwobi responded to his teammate by saying: “Mr Rabonaaa!”

Ruben Amorim feels the heat at Man United after Fulham loss

Football Insider Verdict

The loss against Fulham heaped pressure on Ruben Amorim, as last year’s winners crashed out of the tournament.

The former Sporting CP manager only joined in November, but has so far struggled to successfully implement his 3-4-2-1 tactical system, with his players seemingly unsuited to the approach.

Patrick Dorgu was brought in to help with the tactical evolution under Amorim, but Man United’s precarious financial position means that summer signings will be limited.

Mick Brown told Football Insider exclusively Man United are suffering a “catastrophic” dressing room crisis, and the Portuguese manager has broken the “golden rule” of not criticising his players publicly.

With his side sat 14th in the Premier League, and out of both domestic cups, Amorim and the Red Devils’ match-up against Real Sociedad in the Europa League is the last chance for the 20-time Premier League winners to secure silverware this season.
