Alex Moreno shares ‘absolute delight’ at Nottingham Forest after Ipswich win

Nottingham Forest defender Alex Moreno sent a message on social media after beating Ipswich on penalties.

The Spanish left-back struggled to deal with former West Ham wing-back Ben Johnson, and was eventually replaced in the 82nd minute.

Forest had only lost twice at home in all competitions this season, but Ipswich pushed them mightily close.

The first-half was an entertaining affair, with the Tricky Trees going closest to opening the scoring, as Ibrahim Sangare saw his header bounce wide from an Anthony Elanga corner.

In the 53rd minute, George Hirst opened the scoring for Ipswich, heading home after being left unmarked from a Johnson corner.

Elanga’s deliveries from wide areas were a nuisance for the Tractor Boys all night long, and his whipped cross in the 68th minute gave Ryan Yates the opportunity to level the scores.

After a rousing back-and-forth half-hour of extra-time, with Chelsea target Liam Delap coming close to scoring, the tie went to penalties, with the first nine efforts being scored.

However, goalkeeper Matz Sels would guess correctly, diving low to his left to deny Jack Taylor, winning the tie for Forest and setting them up for a meeting with Brighton in the FA Cup quarter-final.

Following the win, Moreno posted a series of images of himself in action against Ipswich on Instagram, captioned: “Great feeling to be able to play at the City Ground with all the fans! I’m absolutely delighted with the win. See you in the quarter-finals.”

The former Aston Villa man’s teammate, Morgan Gibbs-White then reacted by liking the post, showing support after a difficult night for Moreno.

Unlike their next opponent in the FA Cup, Brighton, Forest do have a history of winning the competition, having won the competition twice in their history.

The quarter-final ties will take place on Saturday 29 March, with the Tricky Trees heading south to play at the Amex Stadium.

Nottingham Forest inching closer to stadium redevelopment

Keith Wyness told Football Insider exclusively that Nottingham Forest are no longer looking at a new stadium, and will look to expand the City Ground instead.

With Nottingham Forest gearing up for Champions League football next season, discussions had begun on a potential new home for the side.

However, the stadium that was described as “one of football’s great venues” by the ex-CEO of Everton, will likely continue to play home to the Garibaldis.

Reports last year had suggested that Evangelos Marinakis may be looking to move the club to a new stadium in the city centre, but the club have resolved a dispute over the freehold at their current ground.
