Alex Rae believes that Wolves could be the “surprise package” in the Premier League next season but in order for that to occur, they have to keep on investing in the same way they are doing right now in the Championship.
The Molineux outfit splashed the cash last summer when they signed Ruben Neves, Helder Costa, and Pedro Goncalves to name a few and are expected to delve into the transfer market once more in this coming summer window.
Eliaquim Mangala is already being spoken about as a possible arrival, particularly with the defender’s connections to Jorge Mendes.
As quoted in The Birmingham Mail the former Wolves midfielder said: “The future looks bright for Wolves because if they’re investing that type of money into the Championship, and then if they do the same in the Premier League, Wolves could be a surprise package next year.”
Football Insider verdict:
We’re not sure that Wolves being a success in the Premier League would count as a surprise. The financial backing they have along with an already talented group of players that is surely going to get stronger in the summer window puts them in good stead ahead of their journey into the top-flight. It’s absolutely imperative that they keep hold of Neves as he is the linchpin for everything that is up and coming about the club. As long as Wolves can ward off Liverpool’s reported interest and add a few others into the mix, Rae is right, the future really does look bright for the PL newcomers.
