Alexander Isak exit: ‘Massive transfer claim issued live at Newcastle v Wolves’

Newcastle forward Alexander Isak had a “massive” transfer claim issued by Glenn Hoddle live during their game against Wolves.

The Swedish striker has been in imperious form for the Magpies this season, scoring 13 goals in the Premier League before adding another in the first half against Vitor Pereira’s men.

That run has lead to extensive rumours that the former Borussia Dortmund striker could be on his way out of St. James’ Park.

Arsenal have shown massive interest in the striker and are rumoured to be weighing up a bid worth £150million for Isak.

During the match against Wolves on TNT Sports, Hoddle spoke on the Swedes’ future (7.40pm): “They’ve got to keep him and it’s a poor time to get rid of a player like that.

“He’s that good, and in the January transfer window, when things are going so well for Newcastle. They’ve got this momentum and he’s a massive part of it.”

Newcastle must choose between profit or results

With news that no Premier League clubs would be sanctioned for breaching profit and sustainability rules (PSR), the 20 participants breathed a collective sigh of relief.

Newcastle’s transfer business in the Summer was heavily motivated by the need to be PSR compliant. Yankuba Minteh join Brighton and Elliott Anderson join Nottingham Forest, Odysseas Vlachodimos then joined from Forest.

It is something that is now heavily impacting the way that clubs operate in the transfer market, and selling Isak now would provide the club with a huge boost in the profit section.

However, the talismanic striker has been key in the club’s wonderful winter form that has seen them win six league games on the bounce. Replacing him would be a near-impossible task.

It is likely that, as Hoddle suggested, no deal would be sanctioned by the Magpies in the Winter period, but that does not mean a deal will not happen in the Summer.

Newcastle, having avoided a points deduction, now look set to begin their January spending spree with a move for AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori.
