‘Head’s gone’ – Alexander Isak claim made with Newcastle decision made

Newcastle United’s pre-season preparations have been disrupted by the doubts surrounding Alexander Isak’s future.

While the Magpies are preparing to achieve success in both the Champions League and the Premier League, Isak did not travel with Newcastle to Singapore, where they lost 3-2 to Arsenal in a friendly on Sunday, 27 July, as he explores his options away from the North East.

The Sweden international was a key man for Eddie Howe’s men last term, notching 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions, including a decisive goal in their Carabao Cup triumph over Liverpool.

Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Liverpool are increasingly confident of signing Isak, as Arne Slot continues to bolster his attack.

Newcastle told they can no longer retain Isak

Parting company with Isak would have severe consequences for Newcastle’s hopes of enjoying another successful Premier League campaign.

Only Mohamed Salah scored more goals in the top flight than the 25-year-old last season, epitomising his importance to Howe’s side.

But speaking live on talkSPORT on Tuesday, 29 July, Neil Warnock said: “Once a player’s like that, his head’s gone. I don’t think you can get them back on side.

“Very, very difficult. I think they’ve just got to get as much as they can. If they can get £150million, get £150m.

“He is the best, without a shadow of a doubt, and you’ve just got to say we enjoyed his time with us. That’s how it goes.”

Howe must plan for life without Isak

Football Insider verdict

Losing Isak undoubtedly weakens Newcastle and dampens their chances of reaching the latter stages of the Champions League, as well as launching another challenge for the European spots in the Premier League.

Isak has shone for Newcastle

As alluded to by Warnock, now that the former Real Sociedad player seems to have his heart set on a move away from the North East, there is little that Howe can do other than sell the talented asset.

The St James’ Park should swiftly turn their attention towards signing a new striker who is capable of performing in the Premier League.

With that in mind, Newcastle have eyed Benjamin Sesko, who notched 21 goals and six assists in 45 appearances for RB Leipzig last term.

Isak is a tough act to follow, but Sesko’s performances in the Bundesliga indicate that he can acclimatise to the demands of the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will heavily boost their chances of retaining the Premier League title if they sign the Newcastle hotshot.
