Alexander Isak to Chelsea: ‘Newcastle transfer to Stamford Bridge no surprise’
Alexander Isak leaving Newcastle to sign for Chelsea would not come as a surprise to former Watford captain Troy Deeney.
The Blues have been linked to a move for the Swedish international, while the Magpies have been tipped to consider cashing in to move for the likes of Victor Osimhen.
The London side’s attacking duo of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku have combined for 16 goals across all competitions so far, but Deeney can imagine Isak arriving at Stamford Bridge if Todd Boehly and company are prepared to spend big again.
However, the former Hornets player told talkSPORT Isak could join the London club in the future. “He’s a finisher. I wouldn’t be surprised if Chelsea get him. But they’ve spent a lot of money on everyone basically. So I don’t know if they would go again, but Isak is a proper finisher.”
Chelsea have enjoyed a strong start to the Premier League season under Enzo Maresca, sitting third in the table as the league’s third-highest scorers with 23 goals, following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Leicester on 23 November which got Steve Cooper sacked.
Alexander Isak would flourish with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge
Football Insider Opinion
After scoring 21 goals in 30 Premier League games for Newcastle last season, Isak has already netted four goals and provided two assists this term. His ability to finish would be further enhanced by Chelsea’s strong midfield, which will provide him with more opportunities and quality service.
English star Cole Palmer, the PFA Young Player of the Year and arguably one of the best midfielders in the world at the moment, would be a key provider at Chelsea. Palmer’s vision, dribbling, and creativity make him a perfect partner for Isak, as his style of play focuses on quick, incisive passes and delivering precise crosses into the box.

Having recorded 11 assists last season and already notching five this term, Palmer’s ability to unlock defenses would give Isak more goal-scoring opportunities. Their partnership would be lethal, with the former’s flair and technical ability complementing the Swede’s clinical finishing.
The signing of the 25-year-old would create healthy competition for the striker role at Stamford Bridge, alongside Nicolas Jackson, who has already scored seven league goals this season.
With both players possessing different styles—Isak’s goal poaching and movement combined with Jackson’s pace and energy—the competition would push each forward to perform at their best. This depth in attack would provide Chelsea with more options and flexibility, ensuring they maintain a potent offensive threat throughout the season.
With Nkunku seemingly looking for a move, the timing might be perfect for the Sweden international to join Chelsea, should the cash be available.
In other news, some Chelsea fans have called for Enzo Maresca to make a big decision over Noni Madueke.
