Alexander Isak: Transfer guru shares Newcastle update after deal agreed

Newcastle United star Alexander Isak will be considering his future at St James’ Park after Anthony Gordon’s contract news.

That is according to former Man United, Aston Villa and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown who exclusively told Football Insider that the Magpies’ star players will be in contact with their agents to discuss their next steps.

This comes following Football Insider’s reveal that Gordon has committed to a six-year deal to make him one of the club’s highest-paid players alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier.

It is said that Isak, 25, will either ask for a similar contract if he wants to stay at the club, or explore a move elsewhere to better his situation.

The striker has been heavily linked with moves to the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea since the summer transfer window, and clubs could look to capitalise on his situation.

His agent will be heavily involved in the decision process as he looks to land the player a new deal, with his teammate setting the benchmark.

While an exit from Newcastle remains equally as likely as staying as things stand, discussions are already underway about where his long-term future may be.

Alexander Isak considering his future at Newcastle after Anthony Gordon contract news

Football Insider reported that Gordon will be earning upwards of £140,000 per week at St James’ Park, and it has now been suggested Isak will look to earn a similar fee.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience working with players and agents at the top level, and remains very well-connected within the game, insisted that the star players will already be speaking to their agents to weigh up their possibilities.

The players will be looking at Gordon’s new deal and speaking to their agents,” he told Football Insider.

It’s interesting at Newcastle because they have to be careful of this PSR business so they will need to sell players at some point if they want to spend big.

But the only people they could sell are their better players, and they don’t want to do that.

You’ve got people like Isak who’s done really well, and Bruno who’s an icon up there, but those types of players will be on the phone to their agents.

It will either be ‘I want to stay here, get me a contract like his’, or ‘I don’t like the way things are happening, I need out.’

Now that Gordon has been given this big new contract, his teammates will be able to demand similar from the club, and that could cause issues.

If they want to stay, they’ll expect a big new deal, but they could even push to leave if they don’t get it.
