Allan McGregor: McLeish can't believe 'sinister' reason for stalled Rangers talks
Alex McLeish has suggested Rangers are waiting on Allan McGregor to make a decision over his future after contract talks reportedly stalled.
The former Ibrox boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted neither party would want to “mess each other about” as they discuss a new deal for the 40-year-old.
As revealed by Football Insider last month (9 May), McGregor was in advanced talks over new terms and the Gers were confident of striking a deal.
The Scottish Sun (16 June) claim contract talks have not progressed recently and that he now has a two-year deal on the table from a club in the UAE.
McLeish admitted he cannot believe there would be “something sinister” behind the lack of movement in discussions.
However, he suggested the ball is in the goalkeeper’s court.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “You know that the relationship between the two is great. So I can’t for the life of me think there’s something sinister.
“I would say that it’s one of those: ‘Allan, what do you want to do eventually?’
“Allan, I guess will be saying I’m deciding my options, if he does have options. I would think it is going to be mutual respect.
“They’re grown-ups, Allan’s been there a long time. I don’t think either party would mess each other about, given the longevity of his loyalty and also Rangers’ loyalty to him. There’s a mutual thing in there and Allan’s got to decide what’s best for him.”
McGregor returned to Rangers for a second spell in the summer of 2018.
He played 47 times across all competitions during the 2021/22 campaign.
