Amad Diallo hit by rude awakening after damning Ibrox source reveal - Rangers TV pundit
Amad Diallo may have underestimated the challenge presented by Scottish football before joining Rangers, according to Alan Hutton.
The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 19-year-old needs to show a “strong mentality” in order to break back into Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s plans.
As revealed by Football Insider (8 April), Rangers plan to let Diallo go at the earliest opportunity with his loan move from Man United not going according to plan.
There are no plans to attempt to extend the deal into next season or negotiate a permanent deal.
Diallo has started just three times since joining Rangers – and has not featured since 13 March.
Hutton identified the turning point as the 3-0 loss against Celtic in February – a game in which the winger was hooked at half-time.

“I think he’s probably finding out how difficult Scotland can actually be,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“I’m not pointing any fingers, but there have been players in the past who have come up and thought it was going to be easy – but have had a bit of a shock.
“He was thrown in early doors, he looked really good, really sharp. But the turning point was the last Celtic game [on 2 February].
“He realised then what he was up against, and the levels you have to maintain to keep your place.
“He’s had a real knock to his confidence. But he needs to now show a strong mentality.
“It looks to me that he has the potential to be a big-game player, but he just needs to find his feet again.”
