Amad Diallo shines, Rasmus Hojlund shocking – Man United player ratings vs Chelsea
Man United slipped to yet another league defeat as they were beaten by Champions League chasing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Ruben Amorim‘s side will have been looking to build momentum in their last game before their Europa League final with Tottenham on Wednesday (21 May).
After a goalless first half that saw a Harry Maguire goal ruled out for a narrow offside by VAR, Man United were then bailed out when referee Chris Kavanagh awarded a penalty for a foul on Tyrique George by Andre Onana, only for that to be overturned by VAR as well.
Even so, Chelsea would take the lead with 20 minutes of normal time remaining when Marc Cucurella headed home a cross from Reece James.
That was enough to confirm all three points for the Blues, condemning the visitors to a record-extending 18th Premier League defeat of the season.
| Man United last five games | Result |
| Athletic Bilbao (A) | Won 3-0 |
| Brentford (A) | Lost 4-3 |
| Athletic Bilbao (H) | Won 4-1 |
| West Ham (H) | Lost 2-0 |
| Chelsea (A) | Lost 1-0 |
Here is how Football Insider rated the performances of the Man United squad in that clash with Chelsea on Friday night (16 May).
Andre Onana – 5
Got away with a couple of moments thanks to the intervention of the officials, but otherwise didn’t have a huge amount to as the hosts struggled to find their range.
Victor Lindelof – 6
A steady enough performance from the Swede but again unlikely to be one that earns him a long-term stay with the club.
Harry Maguire – 5
Man United are being tipped to offer a new contract to Maguire, who was denied an opener by the Semi-Automated Offside technology, in what was his main contribution to the game.

Luke Shaw (off for Heaven, ’82) – 4
Had some nervy moments here, struggling to really provide much of a sense of stability to the back line as Chelsea applied the pressure.
Man United underwhelm again
Noussair Mazraoui – 5
Another who went into the book, the full-back otherwise had a largely unspectacular evenng in what was a flat all-round performance.
Casemiro (off for Ugarte, ’70) – 5
Despite some improved performances recently, this wasn’t really a game where the midfielder imposed himself, also picking up a booking.
Bruno Fernandes (off for Mainoo, ’82) – 6
Fernandes won big in Man United’s end of season awards, but this was far from his finest performance this season, as he struggled to pose as much threat as usual.
Patrick Dorgu – 6
Looked to get forward on a few occasions as he often does, but struggled to find an end product which also feels a recurring theme at the moment.
Mason Mount disappoints against former club
Amad Diallo – 7 – Player of the Match
Best of a limp bunch. As is often the case he did at least look like he had a bit of a spark and was the most likely to make things happen, though he was also booked for diving.
Mason Mount (off for Garnacho, ’70) – 4
Mount’s future at Man United has been questioned despite some recent good performances, and against his former club, struggling to get involved or pose much of a threat when he did.

Rasmus Hojlund – 3
Yet another anonymous performance from the Red Devils’ centre-forward who never looked a threat and must be absolutely shot of any confidence. You wonder if questions will be asked of his future this summer.
Substitutes
Manuel Ugarte (on for Casemiro, ’70) – 4
Brought off the bench but couldn’t change things and was booked for a poor challenge.
Alejandro Garnacho (on for Mount, ’70) – 4
Garnacho has been linked with a move to Chelsea, but couldn’t make an impact and was turned inside out by James in th build-up to the opening goal.
Kobbie Mainoo (on for Fernandes, ’82) – 5
Unable to make a difference after coming on for the final few moments.
Ayden Heaven (on for Shaw, ’82) – 5
A positive to see him back after that worrying injury against Leicester, but the young centre-back understandably looked rusty leading to him being booked.
